Incident Summary: Yakima County Fire District # 5 was dispatched to a small shop on fire next to a residence. When the first unit arrived there were flames coming from all the openings of the structure. A defensive attack was made with exposure protection being the main priority. On arrival of other fire fighter’s, an offensive attack was done. Fire fighters had trouble with accessing the structure, as there was debris along three sides. The fire was extinguished, however the structure and its contents were a total loss. The only electricity powering the structure was from an electrical extension cord that was extended from a nearby residence. The extension cord was powering a small electrical heater in a room used as living quarters. The occupant was at the neighbors and returned finding the structure was already heavily involved with fire. The occupant was going to be staying with family, as the structure is no longer inhabitable. The cause and origin is tentatively being labeled as: unintentional/undetermined electrical issue in the living quarters. The Yakima County Fire Marshalls’ office was notified of the fire and the scene was released to the occupant.
