Boardman, Moses Lake, Grant County, Richland, Franklin County

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — After tracking a vehicle reported stolen out of Seattle in their community, Moses Lake police officers were led on a dangerous chase by a pair of suspects in their 20s.

According to a social media notice from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, MLPD dispatch received a call about a stolen Audi with GPS indicating it was in their jurisdiction on June 14, 2022. The car was tracked to the 2700-block of W Broadway Ave, where officers tried to make contact with the driver.

That’s when police say the driver fled the area, ramming into one of their patrol cars to evade arrest. Backup rushed to the scene and deployed a spike strip which successfully popped at least one of the car’s tires. However, the suspects allegedly fled from the damaged car on foot to a residence near Heritage Ln SE.

There, the duo is accused of stealing a white cargo truck full of tools. The victim reported this to Moses Lake police officers promptly and their search was renewed. A short while later, deputies spotted the vehicle on S.R. 262 in Mardon and followed while reinforcements met them. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop at Rd 12 SE & Rd A SE near Othello, but the suspect successfully fled.

Meanwhile, police officers back at the stolen Audi allegedly recovered drug paraphernalia and beer cans, giving them reason to believe the suspects were under the influence during this pursuit. Given the severity of the situation and fear of public danger, Moses Lake police initiated a full-scale chase in order to protect their community.

Spike strips were deployed and popped two of the stolen truck’s tires, leading police to perform a pit maneuver to fully immobilize the vehicle at the intersection of WA-26 & Dodson Rd S. They deployed K9 Chewbacca and successfully brought the suspects into custody for their alleged crimes.

They identified the driver as a 28-year-old Royal City man named Jorge Escoto Garcia. He faces pending charges of eluding, theft of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence with more to follow based on the ongoing investigation. The passenger, 23-year-old Yvet Villalvazo of Kent, WA, faces felony eluding charges on top of possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run (attended).
