Investigators say Selah man murdered wife, then shot and killed himself
SELAH, Wash. — A Selah man murdered his wife before shooting and killing himself early Friday morning, police said.
Family members called police at about 1:20 a.m. about a man in distress who asked them to pick up his children from a home in the 100 block of E. 10th Ave. The family members told police that “something didn’t seem right” about the conversation.
When officers arrived, they found a woman dead.
A short time later, the woman’s husband contacted law enforcement and family members and made several “incriminating remarks” about the condition of his wife. He also said that he was not going to willingly surrender when to police when they found him.
A manhunt ensued and the suspect’s car was found empty along I-82 in Kittitas County. After hours of searching for the man, he was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, police said.
No names have been released.
The Washington State Patrol and Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office issued an advisory Friday morning urging drivers not to pick up hitchhikers while the manhunt was underway. The advisory has been lifted.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Yakima Police Department, WSP and Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
