New coffee shop opening soon in West Valley
WEST VALLEY, Wash. — A new drive-thru coffee shop is opening soon at the corner of Summitview Avenue and 56th Avenue in West Valley.
The Human Bean — an Oregon-based coffee chain — has two drive-thru windows, coffee beans straight from the farms and prides itself on efficiency.
Steve Balodis co-owns the shop with his wife, Amanda. After 22 years of working at Sherwin Williams, he decided to branch out.
“I was always familiar with Yakima and I’ve always had a craving for coffee,” Balodis said. “I was just looking for a change of pace.”
Balodis says he chose Yakima because it was the largest city he could find within driving distance from Goldendale, where he lives and because he’d previously done business in the area. He chose Human Bean because of their company culture.
“I like what they stand for,” Balodis said. “They buy their coffee beans directly from the farms down in South America.”
By purchasing directly from the farms, Balodis says the profits go back to the growers, instead of to a third party.
“We’re about giving back to the community,” Balodis said. “We really are happy to be here in West Valley.”
Balodis said the grand opening is set to happen within the next few weeks. Once its up and running, the shop will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
