New details emerge in Yakima drive-by shooting

YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima police are looking for the suspects involved in a drive-by shooting near downtown Yakima Thursday evening. Police responded to a shots fired call at about 4:30 p.m. in an alley near 9th Avenue and Spruce Street.

According to Capt. Shawn Boyle, police found two men in their early twenties on the scene with gun shot wounds. The victims are identified as Ruben Marin, 18, who was shot in the torso, and Jeremiah Ledesma-Morales, 21, who was shot in the hip. Boyle said both were transported to local hospitals and are believed to be in stable condition.

The men said that a white sedan pulled up on them and that a passenger wearing blue shot them.

The ensuing investigation revealed the victims and some other males in a vehicle had an altercation and shots were exchanged between the groups.

A witness led officers to a handgun hidden in the alley. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) arrived and assisted with the scene.

YPD’s Major Crimes Unit and the Gang Unit are working the case and currently following up on suspect leads.

No arrests have been made at this time.
