New lane to be added to U.S. 12 in hopes to protect drivers
YAKIMA, Wash. — After multiple crashes, a new lane will be added to a local highway to hopefully save lives.
An acceleration lane on U.S. highway 12 will be added between Yakima and Naches.
The lane near low road is expected to give drivers enough distance to safely merge onto U.S. 12.
A flashing warning sign will be installed to alert drivers of oncoming vehicles.
The Kershaw companies helped make the lane possible.
“Giving the money it meant that we could get it done sooner and have a safer intersection for the community, highway 12 is a major thoroughfare over the pass and we wanted this intersection to be safe for everyone,” said Kershaw Companies, Kristin Kershaw.
Kershaw Companies earned a recognition award for its $200,000 donation, covering about a third of the cost.
Work is expected to begin in April.
