RICHLAND, Wash. - Richland's main thoroughfare will be transformed into basketball courts on Friday.
See3Slam, Tri-Cities' annual three-on-three basketball tournament put on by the Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary, will be taking over a section of George Washington Way through the weekend. The festivities will close the section near John Dam Plaza beginning Friday at 6 p.m. through Sunday at approximately 7 p.m.
The event will feature food vendors, an outdoor movie on Friday, a pancake feed each morning and a Saturday evening concert. The tournament will also include the chance to win a 2018 Nissan Versa SV Sedan in the West Coast Auto Dealers Shoot Out.
Former Seattle SuperSonics player Slick Watts was in town on Thursday promoting the event.
"Repetition in life is the key," he said when asked about advice for upcoming players. "Then break off for the weekend and play a little three-on-three and have some fun."
Watts is also promoting his basketball clinic that will be held at Richland High School on September 27. Players that sign up at See3Slam will get a discount.
Thanks to generous sponsors, all of the funds raised at See3Slam help provide cataract surgeries for kids in Ethiopia through Gifting the Gift of Sight, along with a few other local charities.
"It's really rewarding knowing that what we're doing out here is having a lot of fun, but we are also raising money for the people the most need it," said Terry Fleischman, one of the founders of the event. "If you are paying an entry fee of $150, you've just given three people their sight back, it's amazing."
During the tournament, cars entering Richland and traveling north on George Washington Way toward Swift Boulevard will be directed to turn left on Jadwin Avenue. Drivers traveling south will detour east at Swift Boulevard.
Event participants are encouraged to park at the Federal Building Parking lot or at the corner of Lee and Jadwin.
Games start at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Finals start at noon on Sunday. For a full schedule of events, click here.
