4th Annual Tamale Festival expecting big crowds

For the fourth year in a row David Cortinas is putting together the Tamale Festival at the Fairgrounds in Kennewick.

The biggest question he always gets is whether the event inside or outside.

"I've been getting calls all day from people asking what the weather is going to be like and when I tell them it's inside buildings 2 and 3 at the Fairgrounds they are relieved," Cortinas said with a smile.

Cortinas, who also own La Voz Hispanic Newspaper, says this year will be better than ever.

"This year we have vegan tamales, gluten free tamales and vegetarian tamales," said Cortinas.

This year's event will feature 23 vendors in all, including 12 tamale vendors, Mexican style dancers and live bands. There will also be a beer garden where people can enjoy adult beverages. But Cortinas says this is a very family and kid friendly event.

"We'll have a Kids Zone for the kids with face painting and a giant dart board," says Cortinas.

The cost to get in is $3 for adults or free with 5 cans of food. Children 10 and under are free.
