OCEANSIDE, Calif. - U.S. Border Patrol agents busted a woman suspected of smuggling $532,596 in cash during a traffic shop. Authorities believe it was earned through illicit narcotics sales.
Agents found the cash when they pulled over the woman in a 2012 Jeep Cherokee on I-5 southbound near Oceanside.
A K-9 dog led them to the back of the vehicle where they found the bulk of the money.
The woman was arrested and turned over to agents from Homeland Security Investigations. The vehicle and cash was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
Coincidentally, San Diego Sector Border Patrol seized $290,000 cash on the same highway on the same date last year, according to a news release.
The largest cash seizure by the San Diego Sector was $3,000,000 on Aug 23, 2016.
