YAKIMA, Wash. - Central Washington State Fair officials say cold weather this year led to a dip in attendance.
"It doesn't really mean anything," fair spokesperson Kelly Gasseling said. "You still have a ton of people that come to the fair, not just locally but from out of town as well ... it's great for the local economy."
Last year, with good weather throughout the fair's run, about 321,600 attended. That number dropped this year by about 40,000 attendees.
Gasseling says there was still a good turnout this year and that 2018 set record turnout for the fair.
"We had a great fair," Gasseling said. "277,000 people came, which is a huge amount of people to come through the gates."
Gasseling says they're already working on plans for the 2020 Central Washington State Fair, which will take place from September 25 to October 4.
