Cougar struck and killed by car north of Walla Walla

WAITSBURG, Wash. -- A driver said he struck a young cougar with his car north of Walla Walla, killing it Sunday night. 

Wayde Morris said he was driving on Middle Waitsburg Road near Highway 12 just outside Waitsburg when he struck the cougar around 9 p.m. 

He pulled over and saw the cougar was still alive but was unable to move. The animal was dead when deputies arrived on scene. 

The collision caused some minor external damage to Morris's Ford Focus. 

He said the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office transported the cougar to a state Fish and Wildlife facility in Burbank.
