On December 31, 2022, officers with the Richland Police Department were called to the 1700 block of Jadwin Avenue at the Columbia Park Apartments. When officers got to the scene, they found Michael Castoreno Jr., 21, had been shot several times. Castoreno died of his injuries.
Authorities said through their investigation, they learned "several" of the suspects fled to the state of Oklahoma in an effort to get away from law enforcement.
With the help of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and Oklahoma law enforcement agencies, at least two of the people authorities believed were involved in the fatal shooting were arrested in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
Felipe Manjares Jr., 19, of Sunnyside, was arrested on May 5 on suspicion of murder in the first degree. He is accused of shooting Castoreno.
Rosalina Guzman, the mother of Manjares, was also arrested on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance.
Guzman's other son, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested Thursday by investigators with the Sunnyside Police Department on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm. Investigators said there may be other charges added at a later time.
The U.S. Marshals Service is set to return the mother and son to Benton County.
Rafael Torres-Topete, 17, of Kennewick, who was arrested on a robbery charge in Washington, was also charged with murder in the shooting of Castoreno. Prosecutors are looking to try him as an adult.
