YAKIMA – As the search for Lucian Munguia, the missing 4-year-old Yakima boy continues, many people have asked why an AMBER Alert has not been activated for him. The simple answer from authorities is Lucian’s case does not yet fit the requirements.
Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray said a Missing Person Alert has been issued for Lucian. He said the Washington State Patrol has issued the alert and asks if people have information, they should call 911 immediately. Lucian is described as 4 feet tall, 40 lbs, with long black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a long sleeved blue shirt with a shark picture on it, blue shorts and black shoes. His family said he was last seen at Sarg Hubbard Park around 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
Children 17 and under who are known to have been abducted.
Children in danger of serious bodily injury or death.
Activation should occur within four hours of the event, unless not reported to law enforcement within that time frame.
Specific descriptive information to give to the public to assist in the recovery of the child.
Reported to and investigated by law enforcment.
Law enforcment is also required to fill out an Alert Data Entry Form in order for an alert to be activated. While Lucian’s case meets some of the above criteria, he does not yet meet all at this time. The Yakima Police Department continues to investigate the case, however, Chief Murray said the search and rescue has been turned over to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team as of Sunday.
