Hermiston man crashes into house, leads police to massive pot, guns bust

HERMISTON, Ore. - Police made a massive pot and firearms bust in Hermiston on Wednesday.

When officers obtained a warrant to search William Richard Rhoades’ apartment at 1630 W. Sunland Avenue, they found over 75 pounds along with scales, packaging material and potent marijuana extract.

They also seized a rifle and two handguns from the apartment. One of the firearms was previously reported stolen, police said.

The 27-year-old was originally wanted on for failing to pull over for a traffic violation near 1st Street and West Highland Avenue around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A pursuit began and the suspect lost police temporarily. Hermiston authorities called Oregon State Police for backup and they swarmed the area searching for him.

They found his vehicle smashed into a house off Southwest 16th Street after it hit an electric box. The driver was nowhere to be found.

Inside Rhoades’ vehicle, officers found a handgun and an ID card that belonged to one of his associates who was not involved in the incident.

Rhoades was booked into Umatilla County Jail for attempting to elude, reckless driving, hit and run, 1st degree theft, unlawful possession, delivery and manufacturing of marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm.
