Local mother has a new reason to smile, receives life changing gift

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Victoria Wynalda sat patiently Thursday morning, waiting to hear her name called as the winner of the Smile Again program at Columbia Basin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

The program is for people who are in serious need of teeth reconstruction. The winner receives oral surgery and dental implants valued at about $50,000, free of cost.  Nearly 300 people applied to the program this year, but Wynalda was chosen as the winner.

"I'm happy beyond belief. This is something I️ wanted beyond belief and really, really needed," said Wynalda, a single mother of six. "People don't realize that it affects every part of your day no matter what you do."

Wynalda said her teeth are crooked on both the top and bottom, but the crookedness is something she could live with. What truly bothers her is a loose tooth that is about to fall out.

"It would break me for whatever little self-confidence I️ do have," she said.

CBOMS said it started the program as a way to change people's lives through the gift of a new smile.

The surgeons said they chose Wynalda because of her selflessness exhibited through raising her children and caring for others before herself.
