NACHES, Wash. - Authorities in Yakima County sent a rescue boat Friday afternoon to retrieve a man who said he's been lost in the woods for 10 to 15 days without food or water.
A woman called the Yakima County Sheriff's Office at 3:55 p.m. and said she spotted the man across the Naches River near the 1100 block of State Route 410 a few miles outside of Naches, said sheriff's office spokesman Casey Shilperoort.
Naches Fire Capt. Don Swanson tells KAPP-KVEW the woman was fishing upstream when she saw the man. She used her military training experience to float downriver and speak to him.
She said the man was barely responsive, but he told her he'd been missing for up to two weeks.
Firefighters were on the scene about 30 minutes later. They reported that the man was conscious and semi-alert, but extremely weak and unable to move.
The man's name has not been released.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
