Man is hospitalized after being shot by a police officer in Zillah

ZILLAH, Wash - On Friday night a man was transported to the hospital after being shot by a Zillah Police officer

Around 11 p.m. police officers from Zillah and Toppenish were searching for a male suspect for having numerous warrants, including eluding and drug charges.

The officers found the suspect at a house on the 200 block of 1st Avenue in Zillah.

When the suspect exited the residence police saw him holding a black handgun. 

According to the Zillah Police Department, officers on the scene asked the man to drop the weapon but he failed to comply.  

A Zillah Police Offficer then fired a single shot striking the suspect.

The suspect received medical attention on scene and was transported to a local hospital.

The identity and condition of the suspect is unknown at this time.

The officers involved in the incident have been place on routine administrative leave.

Investigators with the Yakima Police Department have been called to handle the investigation.

More information is expected to develop Monday.
