UPDATE: Richland shooting victim dies, gunman still at large

UPDATE (Sat. 10:55 a.m.) — The Benton County Coroner has confirmed the death of Daniel S. Rice, 30, of West Richland. He died early Saturday morning at Kadlec. An autopsy will be done on May 8.

ORIGINAL STORY — Part of one of Richland's busiest streets will be closed overnight as police comb for evidence and organize a manhunt for a gunman who shot someone several times.

The scene of the crime is the parking lot of the Columbia Park Apartments on Jadwin Ave. near Van Giesen St.

Police received several 911 calls around 8:30 p.m. The callers reported hearing a string of gunshots.

When first responders arrived at the apartment complex, they found a 30-year-old man who had been shot several times. Detective Sgt. Drew Florence with Richland PD said the man is seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital but may not survive.

As of 10:30 pm, Sgt. Florence said it was too early to tell what prompted the shooter to attack but witnesses did describe what he looks like.

"The description that we had was a white male about six feet tall wearing a black hoodie and jeans and he fled the scene and got into a vehicle that was described as a sedan," said Sgt. Florence. "It was described as possibly a Honda or similar-looking vehicle."

There was a second person in the car, police said, and they are looking for that person as well.

Jadwin Ave. will be closed overnight near the apartment complex while police search for evidence. Officers were also interviewing several witnesses Friday night. They're asking people to avoid the area so officers can look for clues in the daylight.

This is a developing story.
