YAKIMA, Wash. - A massive gaming warehouse featuring a 4,000 square foot laser tag arena is planned to open in Yakima next week.
Nerds Fun Center and Laser Tag will have dozens of arcade games including Mortal Kombat, X-Men, Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Area 51 and racing games.
There will also be pinball, pool tables, foosball, video game consoles like Xbox, Playstation 4 and Nintendo 64 and the list goes on.
“I wanted to do something that Yakima needed. Something that we didn’t have,” said Brandon Matthews, owner of Nerds. “There was nothing for kids to do.”
Matthews said he’s still in the process adding more arcade games and activities to the 11,000 square foot facility – and he is plans to develop 7.5 acres of land behind the building.
Within the next two to five years, he plans to add a go-cart track, mini golf course, batting cages, a remote control car track and maybe even an axe throwing station.
“I put this thing together for the kids in the town so they have somewhere to go, something to do,” said Matthew.
As a longtime business owner, he said eventually he wants to offer monthly classes for kids to teach basic skills such as how to interview for a job.
The business will need a final building inspection before it’s able to open, which should be next week. The grand opening celebration will be at a later date.
Admission will be free. Laser tag will be $10 a game or three for $25, and the arcade machines will take quarters.
The place will be open seven days a week at 2312 S. 1st St. in Yakima. Hours will be 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 1 p.m. to midnight on weekends.
