HERMISTON, Ore. - Midway Bar and Grill in Hermiston first opened its doors to the community over 70 years ago. Now, the business has the pleasure of serving several generations of families.
Midway originally got its name because it was halfway between downtown Hermiston and what used to be Power city while the dam was still being built.
As far as records can tell, Midway opened around 1946. The restaurant was owned by four other families before finally getting passed to Stuart Rice's family 22 years ago.
Rice said community is something he's instilled into his business and it's important that no matter who you are or where you're from, you feel comfortable inside his restaurant.
"It's all about family and I know it seems weird when you say that about bars and restaurants," Rice said. "We're just looking forward to being a part of the growth of the Columbia Basin area in the years coming forward."
Besides the atmosphere, the beers and comfort food are also staples of the restaurant. The Midway burger is one of the most popular dishes that keeps customers coming back, along with the different chicken meals.
Midway Bar and Grill is located at 1750 North 1st Street Highway 395 in Hermiston. It is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
