Pasco PD conducting extra patrols, targeting distracted drivers

Extra patrols in Pasco

PASCO, Wash. - Officers in Pasco will be out this weekend looking for people driving distracted.

Police will be at Court Street and 20th Avenue. They say there isn't an uptick. They're looking to keep the community as safe as possible.

"You know, we're trying to save lives and this is a way to kind of enforce that," said Sgt. Scott Warren. "We educate as well, but this is an enforcement action that we're going to be doing."

Some distracting features they'll be looking for include people texting, on the phone, eating, messing with their radio, and putting on makeup. For officers, it's about educating the public about the consequences of distracted driving.

"A ticket's going to be the least of your worries if you cause injury to a friend of a family member or a loved one," Warren said. "You know, from injury to death. That would be tough to live with for the rest of your life if it could've been prevented."

Police will post signs warning drivers about the emphasis patrol.

If caught driving distracted, you can be given a $136 ticket.
