Performing arts center coming to Tri-Cities

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Tri-Cities is one of the most rapidly growing areas in the state, and with growth comes new attractions for its citizens.

The Arts Center Task Force is a non-profit dedicated to building performing arts centers. It will be building the Vista Arts Center across from the Three Rivers Convention Center.

The Vista Arts Center will have the capability to host more than 40 local performing arts groups and numerous visual artists a year.

Arts Center Task Force Board Chairman Steve Riley wants to take advantage of the growth to try to attract a younger audience.

"When companies try to recruit into this area, they find a lot of young people say we like sports, weather, but we need some art," says Riley. "We need some entertainment. We need some cultural activity."

The Arts Center Task Force is funding the the Vista Arts Centers through donations and grants. They are not asking for a sales or property tax increase for this project.
