Police: Homeowner stops vehicle prowler with handgun

KENNEWICK, Wash. - An armed man stopped a car prowler who stole from his vehicle.

Michael Magula, 23, had several expensive items in his backpack likely stolen from a series of vehicle prowls when police arrested him in the 3200 block of West 46th Avenue. He was armed with a taser and a knife, police said.

The homeowner called 911 when he saw Magula inside his vehicle, then confronted him. Armed with a handgun, the homeowner ordered him to stop.

He complied without incident.

When police checked his backpack, they found items from the homeowner's car and pills believed to be a controlled substance, police said.

Magula was booked at the Benton County Jail on a 72-hour investigative hold.
