YAKIMA, Wash. - Congressman Dan Newhouse was in Yakima today to learn new ways to make health care more accessible and affordable.
He visited Assurance Healthcare and Counseling Center.
Instead of accepting insurance plans, every patient the center sees are members and only pay a monthly fee to see the doctor.
Membership pricing is $95 for an adult, $180 for 2 adults, $150 for 1 adult and up to 5 children and $200 for 2 adults and up to 5 children.
Called "Direct Primary Care", the center has no middleman a concept Newhouse said could be the future of health care.
“You know with the high cost everywhere, exploding cost of healthcare people are looking for way to reduce that and still be able to provide that necessary service so I absolutely think this is a concept that will catch on,” said Rep. Dan Newhouse.
Doctors at the center said before this concept can take off congress needs to make changes to health savings account plans.
Right now if someone has one of those accounts they can't use the money to pay a doctor directly because the IRS sees this as a premium health care plan.
