Sex offender walks into Kennewick High and allegedly tells teacher he wants to rape her

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A high-risk sex offender allegedly walked into a Kennewick High School teacher's office during school hours Friday morning and told her he wanted to rape her, according to police.

Police say Brandon Hankel, 36, walked into the high school's gym annex around 8 a.m. and approached the female teacher in her office.

He made a comment about sexually assaulting the teacher before being chased away by a school resource officer, police spokesman Ofc. Roman Trujillo said.

The SRO caught up with Hankel near West First Avenue and South Fruitland Street and took him into custody.

The teacher was shaken up but was not harmed during the incident, Trujillo said.

He was previously trespassed from all Kennewick schools after being convicted of attempted rape in 2013.

Hankel was booked into Benton County Jail for suspicion of burglary with sexual motivation.
