WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Walla Walla residents won't have to travel to Tri-Cities anymore to get their hands on top-quality outdoor sporting goods.
Sportsman's Warehouse had its grand opening today. It's the first store to open in the new Walla Walla Town Center, located at the intersection of Myra Road, Rose Street and Poplar Street.
"We need this big time," said one Walla Walla resident who goes by the nickname "Stretch." "It keeps the money here and it's been a long time since we had a mall."
The mayor of Walla Walla and the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce attended a flag and ribbon-cutting ceremony ahead of the store's opening. People were lined up outside the door, and there were also free giveaways for the first 200 families.
"It's nice to have a store with sporting goods so we don't have to drive to Tri-Cities," said Rick, who lives in Walla Walla.
The store is the twelfth Sportsman's Warehouse in the state of Washington. The other stores at the Walla Walla Town Center are expected to open in May and June.
