SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - A Sunnyside teen passed away in a car crash at Independence Road and Scoon Road on Thursday night.

Euriel Garibal, 15, was riding as a passenger in a car driven by 18-year-old Devin McCardle when a driver blew through a stop sign and T-boned them on the passenger side. Euriel is believed to have died on impact.

The driver that hit them was identified as 18-year-old Jose Sosa of Sunnyside.

There were no intoxicants involved and everyone was wearing a seatbelt. Charges may be pending, according to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.

Euriel was a sophomore at Sunnyside Christian High School, which has approximately 70 students, according to Superintendent Brad Van Bee.

His class has about 10 students and "they were all friends," said Van Beek, adding that they were all together Friday morning to mourn their classmate's death.

Van Beek said counselors were made available for students to speak with Friday morning, there are pastors at the school who will be available throughout the day.

"We are supporting the family in any way possible," Van Beek said.
