Suspicious incidents prompt Sunnyside police to increase presence in school zones

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - Sunnyside police say that they will be increasing police presence in school zones after three reports of a gray vehicle attempting to contact children walking home from school.

According to the Sunnyside School District, two Washington Elementary students reported a gray car stopping while they were walking to school, and home from school last Thursday. These kids reported what they saw to the Sunnyside Police Department.

A similar incident took place one week later, this Thursday, but this time the student did not arrive home from school. This prompted a search by Sunnyside police, and the student was found with friends, according to the district.

The school district says in both instances they were unable to locate the car.

Police ask that parents and the community be on alert, and if you “see something, say something” by calling 509-836-6204 or 911.
