YAKIMA, Wash. - Wednesday morning marks the third officer-involved shooting spanning two days in Yakima, two of them deadly on Christmas day.
In the most recent case, Yakima Police Department received a tip about the man wanted for a shooting in Union Gap on Monday. When officers arrived, Gabriel Zavala, 30, fired shots and ran.
They tracked him to Viola and 12th Avenues, where they said Zavala barricaded himself.
“At the time, he was armed. Again our officers fired shots. He was injured, he's currently in Harborview. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening," Yakima Police Captain Jeff Schneider said.
Three of the five officers involved in the shootings have been identified.
Booker Ward, Shane Stevie and Patrick Shad will stay on leave during the investigation.
The name of the two others will be released tomorrow.
