Body found in freezer in Lower Valley had been there for 'some time'

UPDATE: Yakima County sheriff's spokesman Casey Schilperoort said deputies responded to reports of a body found in a freezer in the 64000 block of U.S. Highway 97 in Toppenish.

At this time, authorities have not been able to determine an apparent cause of death or if the person is male or female.

Schilperoort said it appears the body had been there for "some time."

Sources told KAPP-KVEW the freezer was found unplugged in a secluded area where people dump their garbage. 

Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice said the body will be examined Tuesday by a forensic pathologist. 

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. — Authorities are investigating a possible homicide off of U.S. Highway 97 between Toppenish and Wapato.
 
The Yakima County Sheriff's Office was called just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday to assist Yakama Nation Tribal Police and the FBI with a homicide investigation.
 
KAPP-KVEW spoke with people on scene who said a body had been found in the area.
 
Multiple attempts to reach FBI and Yakama Nation officials Thursday night were unsuccessful.
 
The sheriff's office confirmed they assisted with a homicide investigation, but declined to provide further information, as they are not in charge of the case.
