BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - A 28-year-old man is in the hospital after being hit by a train while sleeping in a truck.
Around 4:00 a.m. Monday, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office were called out to a remote area about three miles east of McNary Dam on Bureau of Land Management property along the Columbia River. When they arrived, a truck was found by the railroad tracks.
Employees of an unidentified railroad company said they hit the truck on the tracks. The 28-year-old was sent to Kadlec by LifeFlight with serious, but survivable injuries, deputies say.
According to the sheriff’s office, a father and son were camping in a remote area.
The son went into the truck trying to warm up after it started to rain.
The man fell asleep and for unknown reasons, the truck rolled about 50 yards down an incline to the tracks. That’s when it was hit by a train.
Deputies will continue to investigate the crash.
