HERMISTON, Ore. -- Hermiston police arrested three not-so-subtle theft suspects after an officer spotted them in a Chevy Impala with stolen semi-truck tires strapped to the top.
The officer first saw the Impala near North First Street and East Elm Avenue at about 2:23 a.m. He became suspicious of the two large tires on top of the car, so he decided to turn around to get a better look.
As he was turning around, the car sped up and made a right onto Northeast Fourth Street. By the time the officer got onto Fourth, the suspects were turning onto East Jennie Avenue.
The officer was trying to catch up to the Impala to pull over the vehicle when he noticed one of the two tires rolling down the street. He found the second tire a couple blocks away.
The Impala was eventually found in a driveway in the 700 block of E. Sunset Ave.
Police determined that the tires were stolen from a Pilot truck stop in Stanfield. Some other items that were stolen from the Pilot store were found inside the car.
The driver, Richard Ingersoll, 33, and his two passengers, Michael Garrison, 33, and Crystal Smith, 37, were all arrested on charges related to theft. Ingersoll was also arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
