Valley Mall hosts Silent Santa for special needs children

UNION GAP, Wash. - Valley Mall in Union Gap hosted its Silent Santa, a family friendly event for children with special needs on Sunday morning.

The Silent Santa event began five years ago. It allows children with special needs to spend time with Santa Claus and take pictures with him in a calm and relaxed environment.

Marketing manager at Valley Mall Bryan Kozu said the event began as a way to allow special needs children to enjoy the holidays.

“We’ve had nothing but positive responses from the community,” said Kozu. “We hope to keep doing this in the future.”

Kelly Prescott heard about the event through Facebook and brought her daughters to meet Santa.

“I think this is a nice opportunity, Olivia wouldn’t have been able to normally do this,” said Prescott. “This was one event she was able to do with her sister.”

Families were able to spend 10 minutes with Santa Claus.
