MOSES LAKE, Wash. - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says it's planning to build eight new temples, including one in Moses Lake, Washington.
The faith's president, Russell Nelson, made the announcement at the 188th Annual General Conference earlier this month.
This will be the fourth Mormon temple in Washington state. The others are in Richland, Bellevue and Spokane.
Nearly 290,000 Mormons in 546 congregations live in the state, according to the church.
Currently, there are 162 Mormon temples worldwide and 47 others are planned or under construction. They are used for the most sacred ceremonies, such as weddings.
Seven other temples are planned for the following cities:
- Pago Pago, American Samoa
- Okinawa City, Okinawa
- Neiafu, Tonga
- Tooele Valley, Utah
- San Pedro Sula, Honduras
- Antofagasta, Chile
- Budapest, Hungary
