UNION GAP, Wash. -
On Thursday morning volunteers from the Union Gospel Mission made two trips from all of the food that was raised from employees at the Washington State Department of Transportation Office in Union Gap.
It all started as a food drive competition, which led to employees donating over 3,000 canned-goods to the Union Gospel Mission.
The employees were divided into nine groups to see who could raise the most amount of food.
The groups had four weeks to raise as much food as possible.
Robert Smith is a volunteer at the mission and was in shock when he saw all of the food that was being donated.
“I’m overwhelmed at the amount of food, I haven’t had a donation like this, period,” said Smith.
Del Monte Foods donated a pallet of food and Seneca Foods Corporation donated another pallet of apple sauce and apple chips.
