Yakima Police: Man stabbed by teen over quarters in surgery

YAKIMA, Wash. - A 42-year-old man went into surgery at a local hospital late Monday morning after police say he was stabbed in the back and head by a teenager in Yakima.

Yakima police spokesman Randy Beehler said the man was at East Yakima Avenue and South Sixth Street just after 2 a.m. when a 17-year-old asked him if he could have four quarters.

When the man said no, the teen allegedly stabbed him multiple times. The victim was found several blocks away at East Yakima Avenue and South Sixth Street.

The 17-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident and was booked into the Yakima County Juvenile Justice Center.

Court officials say the teen appeared in juvenile court for a probable cause hearing Monday afternoon, where the case was declined to adult court.

The 17-year-old is scheduled to make a preliminary appearance Tuesday afternoon in Yakima County Superior Court.
