No charges filed against man arrested in Tieton murder investigation
UPDATE: The Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office declined to file charges Wednesday against Edward Jonathan Peyser, who was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of Patterson’s murder. He was released to the public.
Prosecutors say Peyser is still a suspect in the case.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation, which prosecutors say will hopefully provide them with more information to use in making a charging decision.
TIETON, Wash. — A Tieton man was arrested Tuesday for the murder of 33-year-old Jennifer Patterson, a Yakima woman who was found dead in a field on May 4.
Edward Jonathan Peyser, 56, is being held at the Yakima County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
An autopsy shows the victim was sexually assaulted and strangled to death, according to the Yakima County Coroner’s Office. A couple found her body in a field off North Tieton Road as they were looking for a place to take wedding photos.
Court papers said the upper part of her body had been burned and she appeared to have been dead “for some time” when she was found.
The case is actively being investigated and remains ongoing.
This is a developing story.
