PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says a homeowner in Corbett shot and killed two cougars that were trying to get inside a chicken coop.

Sgt. Brandon White said that the homeowner told deputies he was awakened by his chickens early Tuesday. He saw the cougars and fired warning shots to no avail. He then fatally shot them.

White says Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife had been notified, but he didn’t anticipate any charges against the homeowner.
