Oregon man accused of riding ‘live and exhausted’ deer arrested
HARNEY COUNTY, Ore. — An 18-year-old man is facing criminal charges after video surfaced on social media of him riding on a “live and exhausted” mule deer, according to Oregon State Police.
The video shows the suspect, Jacob Belcher, climbing onto the young adult buck in a fenced enclosure and riding on the animal’s back, troopers said.
The deer can be heard making grunting and bleating in the video.
Once the man got off the deer’s back, troopers said the animal jumped into the fence multiple times to escape the enclosure.
Belcher, a resident of the central Oregon town of Riley, was arrested and booked at the Harney County Jail on charges of wildlife harassment and second-degree animal abuse. The person who took the video could also face charges of aiding in a wildlife offense.
