TRI-CITIES, Wash — The iconic annual Water Follies 2021 Columbia Cup is now officially back on, according to the Water Follies’ board of directors.

The event will take place July 23rd through July 25th at Kennewick’s Columbia Park.

“After careful consideration of Washington State event guidelines changing and collaboration with the Cities of Kennewick, Richland and Pasco, Water Follies is a go!” declared Hector Cruz, Board President.

Just a few weeks ago the board announced the cancellation of the event citing “recently issued Washington State guidelines.”

However, Kathy Powel, the event director, said they are working with new state COVID-19 guidelines to bring the famed hydroplane races back this summer.

“Details are being ironed out, but the event will look a little different as we navigate how to comply with the State COVID guidelines,” Powel said. “More than likely there will be more general admission and less private hospitality. We ask race fans to be patient as we gear up for the best weekend in the Tri-Cities.”

Cruz said the team is “grateful” to the multiple sponsors and volunteers for their ongoing support.

“Their commitment and dedication over the years has thrilled generations of fans,” Cruz said.

On-line ticketing will be available mid-June. Race fans are encouraged to go to www.waterfollies.com for updates as they become available.
