Owners of Yakima’s Stop N Go Drive-In planning to rebuild
YAKIMA, Wash. – After a devastating fire closed the Stop N Go Drive-In on Fruitvale Boulevard indefinitely on Thursday, the owners have announced they plan to rebuild.
The iconic burger place caught fire around 11:45 a.m. while the business was closed and no one was inside. Black smoke was already pouring from the roof when firefighters arrived.
Crews mostly battled the fire from the outside due to fears that the fire might cause the roof to collapse. After determining it wouldn’t collapse, firefighters went into the building and put out the fire fairly quickly, said Randy Beehler, spokesman for the City of Yakima.
The fire caused about $115,000 in damage to the building, rendering it a total loss.
On Friday morning, owners Anthony and Josie wrote a Facebook post thanking the community for supporting them through this devastating loss.
They said Anthony’s parents bought the Stop N Go 23 years ago, and it has been a huge part of their lives ever since.
They added that “it is our full intention to rebuild and continue the legacy. We’re not sure how long it will take, but we will be back!”
Stop N Go is located at 2820 Fruitvale Blvd. in Yakima.
