Pasco man charged with vehicular homicide in passenger’s death
PASCO, Wash. — A Pasco man has been charged with vehicular homicide for a rollover crash that killed his passenger over the weekend.
Juan Velasco, 35, is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison after troopers say he rolled his car Sunday evening while taking the Road 68 exit from Interstate 182.
His passenger Noe P. Cruz, 37, was suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Kadlec Regional Medical center in Richland.
Velasco admitted to having a couple drinks that night. A preliminary breath test found his blood alcohol contant was at 0.099, which is above the legal limit of 0.08.
The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office requested his bail to be set at $250,000, pointing out in court Monday that he has an extensive criminal past. He was charged with vehicular homicide on Wednesday.
Velasco has previously been arrested for forgery, burglary, identity theft and unlawful firearm possession along with more than a dozen midemeanors. He was arrested for driving under the infuence in 2009.
His arraignment is scheduled for Mar. 19.
