Petey the dog adopted more than a year after he was left for dead in West Richland
It’s been a long journey for Petey, a dog who was abandoned as a puppy in West Richland last year.
In September 2018, a farmer found Petey alone in the dirt off Rupert Road with a broken, infected leg and cuts on his body. He was only 14 weeks old.
When police shared photos of Petey on their Facebook page, the community support was almost instant. Police received more than $1,000 in donations for his veterinary care costs overnight.
In the weeks after Petey was rescued, a vet discovered that he was blind and would have to undergo specialized training.
He’s been living with a foster parent for the past several months, but on Thursday that changed, according to Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue.
The rescue shared an announcement from Petey’s foster mom saying the dog has finally been adopted.
“All adoptions are exciting, but when a special needs dog finds his perfect forever home, we have to do an extra special share!” Mikey’s Chance wrote.
