Police identify man who shot, killed Kittitas Co. deputy
KITTITAS, Wash. — Ellensburg police have identified the man who shot and killed Kittitas County Deputy Ryan Thompson during a shootout Tuesday night.
Police say the suspect, 29-year-old Juan Manuel Flores Del Torro of Ellensburg, had been driving in the Badger Pocket area of Kittitas County when a deputy tried to pull him over shortly after 7:30 p.m.
He led authorities on a chase before stopping the car at the end of Pierce Street and exchanging gunfire with authorities. Deputy Thompson, Kittitas Police Officer Benito Chavez and the suspect were all shot.
Deputy Thompson and Torro were both taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Officer Chavez was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He is expected to survive.
No other details about the suspect have been released.
