KELSO, Wash. (AP) — A man has killed the mother of his grandchild in Kelso, Washington, before fatally shooting himself, police said.

Kelso police said the shootings happened after Brittany Thuney arrived in the parking lot of an gas station and convenience store Friday night.

Scott Belenski drove into the lot moments later, parked next to Thuney’s car, exited and fired several times into Thuney’s car while she was in the driver’s seat, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

Thuney, 31, died at the scene.

Belenski, 60, walked back to his car, drove to the other side of the lot and fatally shot himself, police said.

Belenski was the biological grandfather of Thuney’s 7-year-old child. She had dropped off the child with Belenski’s son moments before the shooting, according to police.

The child has been returned to Thuney’s immediate family, police said.

The case remains under investigation. Police said no information about a possible motive would be released Monday morning.
