Police: Man’s pickup truck stolen while he was stealing from Kennewick business
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Kennewick police are asking for help in identifying a suspect accused of stealing a truck while the owner was stealing from a business across the street.
Officers responded about 6 a.m. Sunday to reports of a vehicle theft in the 500 block of East Bruneau Avenue.
Police say a man riding a 10-speed bike saw the keys had been left in the seat of a red 1992 Chevy pickup, threw his bike in the bed of the truck and fled.
When officers got ahold of surveillance video, they discovered the owner of the car, William Kelley, was at that location because he was stealing from a nearby business.
Kelley was booked into the jail on a warrant and is facing an additional burglary charge. The truck has not yet been located.
The pickup has a maroon canopy and a Washington license: B96531X.
Kennewick police are asking anyone with information about the truck’s location or the identity of the car thief to call them and reference case number 19-33651.
