Police release identity of victim in fatal crash on Highway 11
UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. — Police have announced the identity of the woman who died Tuesday afternoon in a fatal collision on Highway 11 near Adams, Oregon.
Kalli Rae Thompson, 27, of Bismark, North Dakota was driving northbound in a 2008 Ford Explorer when she sideswiped a commercial tractor trailer headed southbound close to milepost 8.
The trailer’s rear duel wheels were torn off as a result, and a second commercial truck hit the debris.
Thompson then drove off the south shoulder of the roadway, rolling the car on its top.
She was partially ejected from during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene, police said Wednesday in a press release.
The collision caused diesel to spill all over the road, forcing police to close it down for several hours while a hazardous materials team worked to remove it.
The Oregon State Police received help at the scene from the Oregon Dept. of Transportation, Umatilla Tribal Police, Pendleton Fire and Medics, Helix Fire and the Hermiston Regional Hazmat Team.
