Police: Selah man arrested after raping unconscious man in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash. — A Selah man accused of raping another man in downtown Yakima was arrested over the weekend.
Police say 64-year-old James Duane Wornick was driving around East Yakima Avenue and South Front Street when he offered a man a ride.
The 47-year-old man got into the vehicle and asked if Wornick could take him to Sixth Street, court documents said.
After several blocks, Wornick allegedly asked the man if he would perform oral sex on him for money.
The man refused and attempted to leave the car, but Wornick reached over and pulled the door closed, according to court documents.
Police say Wornick then hit the victim in the head with something, knocking him unconscious.
When the 47-year-old woke up, police say he found Wornick had forced himself on him. The man pulled out a knife and stabbed Wornick in the neck to get away, court documents said.
Police say Wornick initially reported the incident himself, claiming the victim had sexually assaulted him at knifepoint in the near West Pine Street and South Second Avenue.
Wornick is being held in the Yakima County jail on suspicion of first-degree rape.
