Recount confirmed original result for Benton Co. Commissioner District 2

The recount on Monday, August 22 determined who will take the second spot on the ballot.

UPDATE on 8/23/22: A recount by the Benton County Elections Division confirmed that William “Bill” Jenkin will be the candidate moving forward to compete with Michael Alvarez for Commissioner of Benton County District 2.

BENTON CO. – Benton County election officials have scheduled a recount for Benton County Commissioner District 2 after the August Primary was determined to be too close to call.

The fight is between William “Bill” Jenkin and Barry Bush. The seat, currently held by Commissioner Shon Small, is up for grabs in the November election.

Currently, Michael Alvarez has more than 47% of the vote with 7,559 votes total and will be on the ballot come November, but Jenkin and Bush are separated by just 33 votes.

Jenkin has a slight lead at 25.92% with 4,145 votes and Bush is at 25.1% with 4,112 votes.

Election officials said due to law requirements, a machine recount is scheduled for Monday, August 22 at 9 a.m. at the Benton County Voting Center in Richland.

Officials said the Canvassing Board with certify the results on Tuesday, August 23 immediately following the Board of County Commissioners meeting.
