A restaurant in southwest China has gone out of business after it offered an all-you-can-eat promotion, reports the South China Morning Post.

Restaurant owners Su Ji and Wang Mengfan offered a month-long, all-you-can-eat membership for $19. They say the deal backfired when, for two weeks, around 500 customers would arrive every day and sometimes stay from 8 a.m. until after midnight.

“We knew we would be losing money,” the owners said. “We wanted to accumulate more loyal clients through this strategy.”

The restaurant was forced to close its doors seven months after opening. The promotion put the owners in $80,000 dollars worth of debt in only 14 days.
